Western Michigan adds four members to 2016 recruiting class

Western Michigan had a few decommitments over the last couple of weeks but a strong weekend on the recruiting trail added some new "ELITE" talent to WMU's 2016 recruiting class.
On June 2, offensive guard Jordan Asbury (Warren, MI/De La Salle) committed to the Broncos. The 6-foot-4, 262-pound Asbury holds offers from the likes of Air Force, Army, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Northwestern.

Asbury knew he WMU was the school for him after his visit to campus on May 28. Asbury went back to campus on Tuesday with his parents and committed at the end of the visit.
"I love the coaching staff," Asbury said. "The campus is awesome and it's close to home."
Asbury said he would bring a disciplined, hardworking attitude to WMU that would help the team in any way.
That might not be the only thing Asbury brings to WMU. Asbury's high school teammate Drew Beesley holds an offer from Western Michigan. Asbury said he's talked to Beesley joining him in Kalamazoo.
I asked if any other offers would impact Asbury's commitment to Western Michigan.
"No," Asbury said. "I am committed to WMU."
Broncos added another member to the 2016 class on June 6 with the commitment of offensive tackle Spencer Kanz (Luxemburg, WI/Luxemburg Casco). The 6-foot-6, 275-pound Kanz holds offers from the likes of Army, Harvard, Illinois, New Mexico and Oklahoma State.
"I was on my way home from visiting this Saturday and I called coach Fleck (to commit)," Kanz said. "It's the place that I want to be so there's no point in dragging it on. It feels like home and the coaches are all down to earth."
Kanz also said he has a great relationship with assistant coach and offensive line coach Brian Callahan. Callahan coached and recruited Kanz's brother, Evan, while at Eastern Illinois.
In addition to having ties with the coaching staff, Kanz also knows current WMU commit Tristian Pipp and has been talking a lot to WMU commit Mike Caliendo after the two met at a camp.
When asked what he brings to Western Michigan in terms of a football player, Kanz said toughness, athleticism and a good football IQ.
I asked if any new offers would influence his commitment to WMU.
"Absolutely not," Kanz said.
Western Michigan picked up two more commitments on June 7 from Jaylon Moore (Detroit, MI/ Consortium College Prep) and Darece Roberson (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores).
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Moore plays offensive line at Consortium College Prep but is being recruited to play tight end at Western Michigan.
"I'm excited. It doesn't really matter what position I play," Moore said. "(WMU) liked my footwork, motor, hands and technique."
Western Michigan is currently the only offer Moore holds but he said Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Grand Valley State, Michigan State and Toledo have shown interest.
5-foot-8, 160-pound Roberson plays both wide receiver and cornerback at Mona Shores but will most likely play cornerback at WMU.
"I like offense more but locking people up is also fun," Roberson said.
Roberson was on Western Michigan's campus over the weekend for a 7-on-7 camp and said he was in head football coach P.J. Fleck's office when WMU offered. Roberson made his commitment shortly after.
"I was at my house when I committed. I ran it by my parents and we all felt like it was the right time," Roberson said. "The coaching staff was amazing. (WMU) felt like home."
Roberson attends the same high school as current 2016 WMU commit Hunter Broersma and said Broersma is one of his best friends.
Roberson also holds an offer from Davenport University but said Eastern Michigan and Toledo shown interest.
