The recruiting train that leads straight to Kalamazoo just keeps on rolling. Head coach P.J. Fleck and co. picked up their second commitment of the day, this one coming from Brother Rice (Mich.) athlete DeLano Madison.
Like Sam Beal and Keishawn Watson, Madison is a pure athlete and he will get looks on both sides of the football at Western Michigan University. Standing about 5-foot-8 and 162-pounds, Madison is a pure burner. In this clip from a game against Walled Lake Western, he lines up wide and comes in motion to take an end-around. However, there are two defenders who look to have an angle on Madison until he turns the corner and sprints right by them. The final defender between him and the endzone manages to get a hand on his leg and trip him up. Check out this video for more views of DeLano Madison's high-end speed and explosiveness.
However, Madison has flown under the radar for the most part due to a femur fracture he suffered last year. As he told The D Zone, it was his second femur fracture. "I suffered a femur fracture for a second time this past year and it was pretty bad," he was quoted as saying in the interview. "I was working and working trying to get back but it just felt like I was making no progress. But now I look back to who I was and I progressed a ton."
That hasn't stopped teams from showing interest. He also told The D Zone the majority of the Mid American Conference has shown interest in him as have Michigan, Michigan State and Oregon.
For Western Michigan, DeLano Madison is the fourth athlete to verbally commit to the Broncos, joining the aforementioned Keishawn Watson and Sam Beal, as well as Anton Curtis and Alex Grace.
DeLano Madison is verbal commitment No. 22 as the Broncos continue to rise up the ranks. With this commitment, the Broncos are now tied for fourth nationally in verbal commitments with Syracuse and Tennessee.
Madison is the fourth WMU commitment in about 48 hours.
