The following is a BroncoBlitz "Get to Know" series providing information on Western Michigan University football signees for the 2020 class.
Today we talk to Western Michigan’s future signal caller, quarterback Jack Salopek from Irwin, PA
Tom Schnipke: Why did you pick Western Michigan?
Jack Salopek: The reason I chose Western Michigan is because the type of people on the football team, coaches, and the community are people that share very similar values to mine. Such as valuing family, commitment, hard-work, and success. On top of that Western Michigan allows me to compete at the highest level of college football while getting a great education.
Tom Schnipke: Do you have any personal pregame rituals?
Jack Salopek: I only have one specific thing I do and that’s once I run onto the field with my team, I give my mom the “I love you” hand gesture. It’s something my two older brothers did as well and it seems to calm my mom down before the game begins.
Tom Schnipke: Do you have any songs completely memorized?
Jack Salopek: Yeah, I’d say I have a good amount completely memorized. Anything from one of my favorite rap songs by Lil Uzi that I will listen to before a game to some country songs like "Boys of Fall" by Kenny Chesney or "Springsteen" by Eric Church but my all-time favorite song is "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas because that was my favorite song as a kid.
Tom Schnipke: Is there a funny story from your life you like to tell or share?
Jack Salopek: My two older brothers are a good bit older than me. Tj being 13 years older and Michael being 11. Even with that being said, after their high school football games my 4-5 year old self would immediately tell them after every game what they did wrong and needed to work on. Thinking about it now if I had a little brother that age coaching me up after every game it definitely would’ve been something I would’ve laughed about.
Tom Schnipke: What sport other than football are you good at and what sport are you just horrible at?
Jack Salopek: My best sport other than football would have to be golf. In the summers, I always spend my free time on a golf course somewhere. It’s a sport my oldest brother Tj got me into and is a sport I’ve fallen in love with. My worst sport would have to be soccer. It’s just something I never had an interest for and could never get the hang of.
Tom Schnipke: If you could be any action hero who would you be and why?
Jack Salopek: I’d say Batman because he’s my favorite super hero and because he doesn’t have any real super powers. I think the way he protects the entire city while just being an ordinary person is pretty sweet.
Tom Schnipke: What can Bronco fans expect from you?
Jack Salopek: Bronco fans can expect someone who is gonna play the game with passion and intensity while having a boat load of fun while doing it. I will be the type of player that Bronco fans can count on giving them absolutely everything I've got, every single snap.
