When John Potter was a freshman recruit I was on this board telling everyone that he was going to be an NFL kicker someday. Now he is on the verge of being an NFL kicker. He was selected in the 7th round by the Buffalo Bills. Everyone is shocked...including the Potter family. I am not shocked. I predicted this 4 years ago. Congratulations John!

I'm as surprised as the rest of them, although I thought he'd get a shot as a free agent. The Bills want to use him as a kickoff specialist, which is a great situation for him as long as they can find a spot for him on the active roster.

John's maternal grandmother was born in Buffalo where her father was pastor of a Hungarian Reformed congregation. I'm not certain John is even
aware of that fact.

Yes, John is half Magyar(Hungarian). He doesn't turn away from paprikas csirke or toltott kaposzta (excuse the lack of diacriticals over some the vowels).

All the Potters and our side were thrilled with the selection and hope John manages to find a niche with the Bills.

John has some time off. He'll report for training camp later this month.

He called Grandma on Monday to wish her a happy birthday.

His adventure continues and, by his account, is enjoyable

We plan to visit him briefly at training camp about the 27th of the month. Grandma has a church music conference in Burlington, VT.

On our way to Burlington VT, Grandma and I visited with John on July 27 and 28. Got to see John kick on the 28th.

He was impressive. Check some of the websites connected to the Buffalo Bills. Even some former naysayers are

backing off.

Redskins 7 - Bills 6. Yawnnnnnn!

John had 3 kickoffs and each resulted in a touchback.

Three more preseason games to endure.

Yawn. Yawn. Another yawn.

Since the Bills specifically drafted Potter for kickoffs I'd say 3 for 3 touchbacks is not yawn worthy. The game on the other hand....

I was yawning because I had to depend on the WGR broadcast team to keep me apprised of the inaction on the field.

They performed valiantly; however, they are not endowed with supernatural powers. The game was not well-played.

You know I was hoping John would be given an attempt at a PAT or a FG. It didn't happen, did it?

John's FG accuracy has improved. He has put a lot of effort toward improvement. That effort has not been wasted.

On PATs, he missed 4 in 4 years for the Broncos. Three of those were not his fault. Recall that there was a change

in holders early on in his career.

John kicked well in last week's game at Minnesota. 3 touchbacks. All hitting beyond the endline.

Tomorrow the Bills entertain the Steelers at home. Hoping to see the same level of performance in that game.

On the 30th of August, the Bills will be at Ford Field. My son has tickets for that game and John will have a small group of Flint kin to cheer him on.

The final cut of the Bills roster is due following that game. So by September 1, I should know whether or not to purchase

any Bills hats, etc.

My boy?

My older daughter's oldest son.

In last night's groaner with the Steelers, John kicked two more beyond the endline. Two kicks, two touchbacks.

I'll take that anytime.

Next Saturday, we'll find out whether he has a future with the Bills?

He certainly hasn't shamed himself with his performances as a kickoff specialist.

The old guy was s-s-s-s-sweating it out, but the Bills (at long last) posted their 53 man roster - - - and John was on it.

Great to see Potter makde the team. No tackles for him this year, they're all going out of the end zone.

The Bills got smotched yesterday. It was humiliation to the N-th degree. John's kickoffs were OK. One was returned from the back of the end zone to the Jets' 19. I was following the game via WGR Radio's play-by-play broadcast 'till about the 10

minute mark of the 4th Qtr., when I was deafened by silence. The signal came no more to the old Dell.

Apparently, I missed a score by each team. The Bills put one into the Jets end zone, on the subsequent kickoff John was asked to do an onside kick. It wasn't a thing of beauty and the Jets took possession on their own 49. They found the Bills' end zone AGAIN. So the final score was 48 for the Jets and 28 for the hapless Bills.

I can't recall John ever being successful on an onside attempt.

Just watched the Bills - Browns game on NFL Rewind. John's first three kickoffs were deep into the endzone with returns to
the 26, 27, and 10 yardlines. The last two were touchbacks both landing well beyond the end-line.

The previous week, against KC, he had four touchbacks on six kickoffs. The returns were for 22 and 29 yards.
