WMU adds big, athletic tight end from Wisconsin

The tight end position became a recruiting need again after the de-commitment of Gurnee, Ill. native Caleb Reams decided to re-open his recruiting. On Saturday, May 31, Western Michigan University head coach P.J. Fleck filled that need, again, in the form of Racine Case High School (Racine, Wis.) tight end Da'Rion King.
King is a big-bodied tight end, much like current 2015 WMU recruit Parker Underwood, standing 6-foot-5 and weighing near 235 pounds. King is very athletic, as some feel that he is a legitimate low-major division one basketball recruit, in addition to his exploits on the gridiron.

In his highlight package, King displays fairly soft hands on what were mostly seam routes up the middle. He possesses enough speed to be a mismatch for linebackers while his frame gives smaller defensive backs fits.
On the hardwood, his basketball scouting report provides his numerous skills that translate well to the football field, as well. He's lauded for his prowess rebounding the football and that can be seen as he high-points the football over smaller defenders, relying on his good jumping ability. He is also noted as possessing very good upper body strength which helps in blocking -- though he appears to be more of a pass-catching, athletic tight end than a sixth blocker -- as well as aiding him in battling linebackers while in passing routes.
The defection of Caleb Reams -- who had committed to the Broncos in late-March and subsequently saw his recruiting stock rise in the spring -- opens back up the spot for Da'Rion King.
King has received interest from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Vanderbilt, Yale and Wisconsin, which, along with his 3.5 GPA, shows his academic prowess as well. King will focus only on football at Western Michigan.
He is the 14th commitment in the class of 2015 for coach Fleck and co. in their pursuit of topping last year's record-setting recruiting class.
