After arriving in town for an overnight visit, Hampton went back to his hotel room on Thursday evening with a scholarship offer in hand from the Broncos. Hampton tweeted about having to make a big decision on his football future, which was whether to accept the scholarship on an accelerated timeline.
Friday, after meeting with Fleck around 3 p.m., he gave his word to the young head coach, becoming the 13th commitment for the class of 2016.
The best evaluations of kickers come from Chris Sailer Kicking. There, Hampton is rated as the fifth best 2016 kicker in the country, where he was given a five-star rating. Sailer notes of Hampton that "[His] kickoffs are strong and nearing the top of his class," and also notes his consistency and ability to elevate the football with ease on field goals.
Where Hampton fits in on the roster is fairly easy to see. Andrew Halderman is a senior and Brett Scanlon is a junior. Scanlon will likely continue kickoff duties this year with Halderman retaining the field goal tries. Come 2016, it's likely that Hampton is penciled in as the field goal kicker and possibly taking kickoff duties then as well.
Hampton appears to have a relationship with Wyatt Pfeifer, a WMU long-snapper, who tweeted his excitement at Hampton's commitment.
We will have more on Hampton's commitment in the future. For now, join our forums to talk with other Bronco fans about the 2016 recruiting class.
