BroncoBlitz picks the MAC: Week Six

SU = Straight up
ATS = Against the spread

David James: 44-8 SU, 22-30 ATS
D.J. Duckett: 46-6 SU, 21-30-1 ATS
Brian Persky: 45-7 SU, 27-24 ATS

Brian had a perfect week both straight up and against the spread this week, in a good week all-in-all for the staff. We'll hope that MAC play continues to be good for us in week 6.

Ball State at Virginia (-5), Saturday noon

David: We haven't seen the Cardinals on the road much yet, but their loss at North Texas, though a decent team, doesn't give me too much confidence against a solid Cavaliers team. Virginia by 7

DJ: I think Ball State can definitely keep this game close, but I have to give Virginia the edge at home. Virginia by 3

Brian: Virginia poses as big of a challenge defensively that Ball St. will see all season long. However, I think Ball State is poised to pull off the upset on the road. They're too explosive offensively and I don't think the Cavaliers offense can match them. Ball St. by 3

Eastern Michigan at Buffalo (-14), Saturday noon

David: Buffalo's a bit up and down, but I don't see EMU putting up a much better fight than UConn did last week. Buffalo by 18

DJ: Buffalo has shown an ability to put up some points this year. I do not see Ron English's defense stepping up to this challenege. Buffalo by 15

Brian: After a nice home win last week, Buffalo appears to be back on track and playing how most people expected them to play. The spread on this one is tough, but I'll take the points with Buffalo Buffalo by 17

Central Michigan (-3) at Miami, Saturday 1:00pm

David: Both teams have looked hapless. I do think CMU is a slightly better team, but I don't think they have what it takes to win on the road at this point. Miami by 10

DJ: This game is 100% up for grabs. Both teams have underwhelmed thus far, and both need every win they can get. For me, CMU will win this game on the road. CMU by 6

Brian: Both teams have looked absolutely dreadful. Miami has played better at home, but I suppose I'll give the nudge to the Chips only because they've proved to be somewhat more capable offensively. CMU by 7

Ohio (-4.5) at Akron, Saturday 2:00pm

David: Akron is getting more respect around the league these days, but Ohio should be focused enough to take care of them as their margin of error is slim to get back to Detroit. Ohio by 7

DJ: Something inside me tells me that Akron will win this game. They have shown they can bring the energy in big games, I just wonder if this game will be big enough. Ohio by 6

Brian: I'm still not a believer in Akron and Ohio seems on the upswing. I don't expect the Bobcats to hold anything back having a bye week to prepare for their MAC opener. Ohio by 20

Northern Illinois (-9) at Kent State, Saturday 3:30pm

David: Kent State will put up some points against NIU's vulnerable defense, but won't come close to keeping up. NIU by 20

DJ: Jordan Lynch will have a big game in this one. I expect NIU to win and cover. NIU by 10

Brian: I want so badly to pick the upset here, but this isn't the same Golden Flash team that we saw take NIU into two overtimes last year in Detroit. Assuming they play like they did in West Lafayette last weekend, the Huskies should cruise. NIU by 14

UMass at Bowling Green (-25.5), Saturday 3:30pm

David: UMass has shown a bit of life the past couple weeks. BGSU wins with ease, but it'll be interesting for a half or so. BGSU by 17

DJ: UMass is in for a world of hurt in this one. the BGSU defense will be in attack mode all day. BGSU by 24

Brian: Normally I wouldn't take the points for any MAC game with this big of a spread, but in this case I'm going to. I'd be surprised if UMass even scores a touchdown in this game, against a highly superior Falcons defense. BGSU by 28
