For the record: Wise wins 4A title
Micah Till's 24-yard touchdown catch in Wise's 12-7 victory over Quince Orchard in the Class 4A state championship game lifted a lot of weight from shoulders.BALTIMORE, Md. --
The pass from Isaiah Black was the game-winning touchdown, the first state championship for Wise and Prince George's County's first championship since 2006.
Wise was down 7-6 to Quince Orchard when it started its drive at the 20 yard line, but on the arm of Black went on a nine play 80-yard drive for the program's first championship. Black went 3-for-5 with 59 yards and a touchdown on the drive. Black finished the game 6-of-13 for 108 yards and a touchdown.
Wise did not attempt a pass in the first half, but Quince Orchard's defense focused on stopping Chase Powell, who did most of the damage in the first half with 117 yards rushing.
"We felt like their linebackers were filling the holes, fast," Parrish said. "We knew they were going to keep coming off the ball. We have to do some play-action. We have to spread them out. We have to make them cover. Fortunately we have some big targets and we were fortunate to connect with them."
Chase Powell led Wise with 130 yards and a touchdown.
The Pumas' championship is the first title for a Prince George's County school since 2006 when Friendly (Class 3A) and Suitland (Class 4A) won titles.
Wise head coach DaLawn Parrish was 0-2 in title games prior to Friday night. Parrish's two title game losses were by a combined seven points.
Montgomery County has not won a title since Sherwood won the Class 4A crown in 2008.
Cougars Claw To Runner-Up Finish
Senior running back Tyrell Williams led all players with 176 yards rushing. D'Andre Johnson had 11 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown.
The Cougars had 301 total yards in the game -- 243 yards rushing and 58 passing.
