BroncoBlitz picks the MAC: Week Twelve

As with probably most people, nobody on the staff had UMass beating Akron or WMU falling to Buffalo. That made for a rough week both straight up and against the spread.

SU = Straight up
ATS = Against the spread

David James: 74-17 SU (3-2 last week), 46-33-1 ATS (2-3)
D.J. Duckett: 66-25 SU (2-3), 41-38-1 ATS (2-3)
Brian Persky: 71-20 SU (2-3), 43-35-2 ATS (2-3)

Ohio at Ball State (-6.5)

David: I like Ball State to win this one, but I don't know by how much. Ohio seems to be on the downswing, but they'll probably keep it close as BSU doesn't have a great defense. Ball State by 3

D.J.: Ohio has too many injuries right now, and their season is headed downward. Ball State by 10

Brian: Ohio is reeling and Ball State is really started to find their stride. Coming into the 2012 season, I would've never expected myself to take the Cardinals over the Bobcats in any scenario. But with the way things are shaking out, this might actually be one of the easier picks this week. Ball State by 10

Toledo at Northern Illinois (-10)

David: There's so much riding on this game, I can't imagine it doesn't stay close. NIU is playing so well right now that I don't see anyone taking them down, but Toledo will give them a run for their money. NIU by 7

D.J.: This has turned into one of the best rivalries in the MAC. I see NIU coming up with the win because I don't think Toledo can handle Lynch. NIU by 6

Brian: I still firmly believe that this game is for all the marbles in the Mid-American Conference. And all along, I've felt that Northern Illinois was the better, more complete team of the two. At home, I like the Huskies. NIU by 14

Kent State at Bowling Green (-2.5)

David: Quietly, Bowling Green is playing about as well as anyone in the conference. It would be good for the conference, maybe, if KSU pulled this one off, but home field advantage might be too much. BGSU by 4

D.J.: Bowling Green's defense is tops in the MAC, but I don't think they've faced anyone as dynamic as Dri Archer. Kent by 3

Brian: This is probably the hardest pick of the week for me. I actually like Bowling Green for a few different reasons in this matchup. The winner of this game, in all likelihood, plays in Detroit in two weeks. BGSU by 7

Miami at Central Michigan (-3.5)

David: Winner of this one keeps bowl hopes alive. I don't really like what I've seen lately from the Chippewas. Miami by 7

D.J.: CMU hasn't been impressive the last two weeks. I think Miami comes out ready and keeps the bowl as a possibility. Miami by 10

Brian: This is a bowl elimination game, so both teams still have at least something to play for. Given the ceiling of both teams playing at their best, I like a more well-rounded Redhawk squad despite the fact that this game will be played in Mt. Pleasant. Miami by 7

Buffalo (-11) at UMass

David: I suppose UMass might be flying high after their first ever FBS win (and congratulations are in order), but Buffalo has taken down a couple of teams better than the Minutemen in recent weeks and won't have too much trouble doing the same this week. Buffalo by 20

D.J.: I don't think UMass is going to be able to make it two in a row. I like Buffalo to come out strong and make it a three game winning streak. Buffalo by 17

Brian: I'm going to use my brief prediction to give a huge congratulations to Charley Molnar, his staff, and the Umass Minutemen players, for a well-deserved victory over Akron last weekend, and an official welcome to FBS Division 1 football. Now you get Buffalo. They're better than Akron. Buffalo by 21
