Staff Predictions: Buffalo
With WMU's game at Buffalo just hours away, BroncoBlitz.com's staff members submit their final predictions on the outcome.
David James: The win at Central last week seems to have breathed new life into WMU's football team. Everyone has a spring in their step that simply wasn't present a week ago.
While I do feel that Buffalo has played a rough schedule and is certainly better than their 2-8 record, I still like this matchup for WMU. The main reason for that is turnovers. While WMU's losses have largely come from not taking care of the ball, the Bulls haven't been able to force mistakes all year. As long as that continues, the Broncos will take care of business.
Western Michigan 27, Buffalo 17
D.J. Duckett: WMU looks to keep its bowl dreams alive and I think they will face a Buffalo team that is tougher than its record shows. WMU's offense looks to have found its stride it recent weeks, but the Buffalo defense has been impressive.
I believe this game will come down the Broncos' ability to hunt down Branden Oliver, and make big plays for the team when they need a morale booster or a spark. I think WMU gets the win on the road in a close one.
Western Michigan 38, Buffalo 27
Brian Persky: As a Western Michigan fan, you have to hope that this team doesn't have a gigantic let-down this week after an emotional win in Mt. Pleasant. That's the biggest fear right now. That, and of course running back Branden Oliver. Oliver and the Bulls are coming off a nice MAC East victory against Miami, and have finally turned the corner a bit late in the season. Add in that Oliver has rushed for 300 yards and over 5 yards per carry in his last two games back from injury, and this might be a tougher matchup than Western fans expected several weeks ago when looking ahead on the schedule.
One thing's for sure; the Broncos are still hungry for wins, especially now that their next loss ends their quest for a bowl bid. I think this game is very close and comes down to the fourth quarter. Can the Broncos get another big victory on the road in back-to-back weeks? I think so.
Western Michigan 31, Buffalo 28
