BroncoBlitz picks the MAC: Week Eleven

Brian Persky continues to chip away at the margin in straight-up picking, gaining another game on the leader with a 5-1 week. Against the spread this week, the staff went over .500 again at 10-7-1.

SU = Straight up
ATS = Against the spread

David James: 71-15 SU (4-2 last week), 44-30-1 ATS (5-1)
D.J. Duckett: 64-22 SU (3-3), 39-35-1 ATS (1-4-1)
Brian Persky: 69-17 SU (5-1), 41-32-2 ATS (4-2)

Bowling Green at Ohio (-1.5)

David: Tough, tough pick. Bowling Green's defense is far and away tops in the conference, and Ohio's got an awfully productive offense. I honestly think BGSU is playing better right now. Tough to pick them on the road, but they get it done. BGSU by 3

D.J.: Ohio should win this matchup, but I think BG could keep it close. It will ultimately come down to whether or not the Falcon defense can stop Tettleton and Blankenship. I don't see it happening. Ohio by 6

Brian: A night game in Athens (on ESPN2 nonetheless) will be a difficult task for this tough Falcon defense. I think the loss to Miami a couple of weeks ago woke Ohio up a bit and they put this one away pretty easily. Ohio by 10

Central Michigan (-2.5) at Eastern Michigan

David: EMU can score a bit, but I don't like this matchup for them. Zurlon Tipton has a big day against EMU's sieve-like run defense. CMU by 14

D.J.: This is a rivalry game and those are very hard to predict. I want to say that EMU has the edge at home, but after seeing the Broncos go on the road and get a win, I'm not so sure. In the end, I see Eastern's defense struggling in this one, and CMU coming away with the victory. CMU by 13

Brian: Central has a lot more at stake in this one that Eastern does, with a potential bowl bid on the line. It's been near impossible to predict anything concrete with both of these teams all year, but either way, it's probably a high scoring game. I like the Chips given that scenario. CMU by 10

Kent State (-6.5) at Miami

David: Kent is due for a little letdown, and Miami has already slayed one giant. Dangerous game, though I think KSU survives. Kent by 3

D.J.: I see this being one of the more entertaining matchups this week. Both offenses have shown that they can put up points. I think Kent's defense is far superior to that of Miami, and that will give them the edge. Kent by 11

Brian: I think Kent State had their scare last week against Akron and they don't get caught sleeping again in this win. I like Dri Archer and the Golden Flashes to win this one pretty comfortably. Kent by 10

UMass at Akron (-17)

David: UMass seems to have lost any ability to be competitive. Big day for Dalton Williams as the mostly-competitive Zips finally get their first MAC win. Akron by 25

D.J.: Both teams are probably salivating right now looking at this match-up. I really think UMass still has a long way to go in order for me to confidently pick them in any game at this point. So right now, I'm picking anybody who faces UMass until they prove otherwise worthy. Akron by 21

Brian: This should be an interesting game, as the bottom of the MAC squares off. I like Akron to continue the MAC dominance over new-comer UMass. Akron wins, going away. Akron by 18
