BroncoBlitz picks the MAC: Week Nine

It was a great week for us against the spread, going 15-5-1 as a site. That puts BroncoBlitz at an impressive 102-81-3 for the year (.556).

SU = Straight up
ATS = Against the spread

David James: 63-10 SU (6-1 last week), 36-25-1 ATS (6-1)
D.J. Duckett: 56-17 SU (6-1), 34-28 ATS (6-1)
Brian Persky: 58-15 SU (6-1), 32-28-2 ATS (4-2-1)

Ball State (-3.5) at Army

David: For all the talk about service academies, the MAC has handled Army pretty easily this year. Ball State by 14

D.J.: I see the Cardinals winning this one. Even though service academies are always tricky, I think that EMU showed BSU how to get it done this week on the road. Ball State by 11

Brian: A little bit of a trap game here for Ball State with Toledo and Ohio coming up on the schedule. I expect Ball State to struggle against the triple-option. But I also expect Army's defense to struggle even more against Keith Wenning and the explosive Cardinals offense. . Ball State by 7

Kent State at Rutgers (13.5)

David: Rutgers has too good of a defense for Kent State, who doesn't tend to perform against BCS foes. Rutgers by 20

D.J.: I am hoping that this one is close, but my heart is telling me it won't be. I am very interested to see what Dri Archer will be able to accomplish against a stellar Rutgers defense. I see Rutgers winning this one with Defense. Rutgers by 10

Brian: I'd put the MAC up against just about anyone in the Big East this year. But I can't quite bring myself to pick the Golden Flashes on the road against the #15 ranked team in the country - even if #15 does seem a bit high. I expect a low-scoring game and for Kent State to keep this more interesting than people expect. Rutgers by 9

Eastern Michigan at Bowling Green (-14)

David: I like BGSU, especially the defense, but EMU is playing much better of late. They'll keep it interesting. BGSU by 10

D.J.: I think this game could be close if Eastern can figure out some things on offense. The Falcons defense has really found its stride lately, and I see them continuing their success this week. I like BGSU at home. BGSU by 7

Brian: Oddly enough, this game is really going to tell me a lot about how the MAC East stacks up against the MAC West. If the MAC East is for real, then Bowling Green rolls in one with relative ease. If the West is who I think they are, this might be closer than people think. BGSU by 4

Akron at Central Michigan (-7)

David: Akron has been close so many times this year. They finally get it done. Akron by 3

D.J.: As the Chippewa's prep for their showdown with the Broncos next week, I think they roll over Akron this weekend. I can see a scenario where they get caught looking past the Zips, but to be honest, I just do not see it happening. CMU by 14

Brian: Something's gotta give with these two MAC winless teams. Neither team is well-equipped on defense and with the inconsistencies on both offenses, this game is really tough to pick. I'm only taking the Chips because they are home and I believe the MAC West is significantly better than the MAC East. CMU by 10

Ohio (-7) at Miami

David: Ohio's close calls have people wondering when they'll slip. It won't be this week, but it'll be really close. Ohio by 3

D.J.: This could be a true test for the recently ranked Bobcats. Playing an in state team when you are ranked is never easy, because the target on your back gets that much bigger. I think Ohio will be able to handle the pressure and squeaks past Miami for the W. Ohio by 4

Brian: Everything in my heart is telling me to pick the Redhawks in this game. The Bobcats secondary is really banged up and they've narrowly escaped their first three MAC opponents, who also happen to be the three worst teams in the conference. And now, they'll be asked to somehow stop one of the conference's best quarterback's in Zac Dysert... on the road... after a bye week? I'm calling for the upset in Oxford. Miami by 7

Toledo (-7.5) at Buffalo

David: Toledo is just way better than Buffalo. Toledo by 21

D.J.: I don't see this one being all that close. The Rockets have proven to be one of the better MAC teams and I don't see how the Bulls will stop that high-powered offense. I expect Toledo to be all over Buffalo this weekend. Toledo by 17

Brian: I just can't see Buffalo being able to put up enough points in this one to hang with the Rockets. I'm taking Toledo, very big. The season continues in a downward spiral for the Bulls. Toledo by 28

UMass at Vanderbilt (-32.5)

David: This could get ugly. Vandy is hitting their stride a little bit, and UMass.. well, isn't. Vandy by 35

D.J.: This game will not be close. Vandy in a laugher. Vandy by 21

Brian: UMass is a HUGE dog in this one, understandably so. It's not a question of whether or not Vanderbilt will win, but by how much. It's probably by a lot. You're looking at a matchup that's essentially an FCS school versus a team that plays in the strongest conference in all of college football. Vandy by 35
