Tuesday Insider: Different QB, same USC D

If USC wants to study Stanford quarterback Tavita Pritchard, it might as well throw in some game tape of Washington State from the late 1970s. That's when Pritchard's uncle Jack Thompson, known as "The Throwin' Samoan," played for the Cougars, prior to a six-year NFL career.

The Cardinal's usual starter, senior T.C. Ostrander, had a seizure Sunday. All tests came back normal, Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh said, but Ostrander will not be available this week at the Coliseum.

Pritchard will step in. A redshirt sophomore, he has thrown three career passes - completing one for 10 yards - and has rushed five times for a cumulative loss of one yard. USC coaches have watched his handful of plays from Stanford's 37-0 victory against San Jose State.
