The Western Michigan University football program was finally able to start hosting recruits on campus after over a year layoff due to the COVID pandemic. The quality time paid off as the Broncos picked up 3 commitments.

The first commitment came from Hoffman Estates High athlete Jashawn Johnson. Johnson has the ability to play both sides of the ball and is an exceptional athlete, clocking a 4.47 unofficial 40 yard dash. Johnson spoke on why he chose the Broncos.

"I always told my self my first offer would mean so much to me and at Western Michigan I truly felt wanted," Johnson said. "They weren’t like other schools that just offered me and talked to me once every two weeks. They always talked to me and showed me the most interest."

Johnson, an Illinois product, was also recruited by the likes of Illinois State, Eastern Illinois, University of Northern Iowa and South Dakota State. Kansas State, Kent State, Cincinnati and Northern Illinois have also shown interest.

When asked what type of player Johnson was, his answer was simple.

"I am a playmaker," Johnson said. "When the ball is in my hands, good things happen. I really feel like not many players can keep up with me."

Johnson is familiar with the WMU program and it's players and knows current Broncos Henry Wilson and Jaali Parker.

The next commitment came from a last name WMU fans will recognize, Zeeland East defensive end Tag Bonnema. Bonnema is the younger brother of current Bronco linebacker Boone Bonnema.

Bonnema had offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Michigan State University and Iowa and talked about why he chose WMU.

"I had great relationships with all the coaches there and they have some really cool leadership programs," Bonnema said. "They are close to home and my brother goes there so I have good relationships with a lot of the players already."

The third commitment of the week came from Isaiah Street out of Brownsburg High School in Indiana. Street also had offers from the likes of Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Iowa State. Street spoke on why he chose the Broncos.

"I love the family values and the way the coaches feel connected to their players as well as the way their coaching staff treated me during the whole process," Street said. "Not to mention the great location and campus."

The 2022 Bronco recruiting class now has four commits total, joining Nate Anderson, the first commitment of the class. This article will be updated if commits respond to our interview request.
