P.J. Fleck and the Western Michigan Broncos received two more verbal commitments in the ever-growing 2014 class, both within the last 24 hours.
6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end Nathan Braster (Ft. Wayne, IN) became commit No. 21 just hours after Fleck returned from MAC Media Day at Ford Field in Detroit. It was Braster's second visit to Kalamazoo, since he earned a WMU offer back in June.
Braster's commitment is a somewhat significant milestone for P.J. Fleck, after the head coach received what some felt to be unwarranted press from the Hoosier State this past spring. Braster is WMU's first commitment from the state of Indiana, and easily falls within Fleck's heralded six-hour radius.
Braster also held offers from Ball State, Eastern Michigan, and Toledo, and was hearing from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Purdue, and Wisconsin, among others after a spectacular summer camp season.
Western Michigan's most recent verbal commitment came from 6-foot-1, 240-pound defensive tackle Noa Merritt (Sparta, NJ). Merritt's explosive burst at the snap off the line has gotten more schools excited about his potential heading into summer camps and the fall season.
Merritt joins (RB) Jamauri Bogan as Fleck's second verbal commit from the state of New Jersey. Despite having come outside the six-hour radius, it's apparent Fleck's strong ties in the Garden State are paying off for the Broncos.
Merritt has been receiving interest from Missouri, Syracuse, and Temple, with his only other offer coming from MAC West rival Northern Illinois. See film on Noa Merritt here.
With the two commitments, the Broncos continue to hold strong at 29th overall in the nation according to the Rivals.com team rankings database (2.53 average star rating). The next closest team in the Mid-American Conference is Bowling Green, who has 16 verbal commitments and comes in ranked 75th overall (2.25 average star rating).
The Broncos will be hosting a football camp tonight at Waldo Stadium from 5:00 p.m. (ET) to 9:00 p.m. (ET), where there are expected to be many current 2014 commits and a handful of top 2014 and 2015 targets.
BroncoBlitz.com will be live at Waldo Stadium taking in all of the action, and watching closely as the last few remaining spots in the 2014 recruiting class continue to fill up. Stay tuned for updates later on this evening and into the weekend.
