The Western Michigan basketball program snagged its first commitment of the 2015 recruiting class, as Chesterton, In. shooting guard prospect Chris Palombizio committed to the Broncos shortly after receiving an offer Friday night.
Palombizio has been getting more looks lately as he continues to shine with Fieldhouse Elite Merrillville throughout the young AAU summer season.
He scored 22 points last weekend in one contest and put on another show this weekend in front of coaching staff's from Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, NIU, Valparaiso, and Western Michigan.
The Broncos finally pulled the trigger yesterday and Palombizio made his commitment shortly thereafter. Palombizio's only other offer was from Eastern Illinois. He's also hearing from Central Michigan, Purdue, and South Dakota State.
According to Trevor Andershock of Indiana Basketball Source, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard is likely to still grow a few inches and has the potential to be a matchup nightmare in the future, especially in the Mid-American Conference.
BroncoBlitz.com featured Palombizio in our "Three in Motion" summer-long series, following his May 31st unofficial visit to Western Michigan.
The Broncos will have at least two scholarships to hand out for the 2015 class, as current juniors Hayden Hoerdemann and Austin Richie are expected to graduate. It's possible Western Michigan will sign three or maybe even four players in the 2015 class, due to possible attrition and/or the uncertain future of redshirt senior David Brown.
Stay tuned to BroncoBlitz.com for more to come on Palombizio's commitment and what it means for the WMU basketball program.
