The Oregon State defense arguably had their best game of the year against UCLA. Led by junior linebacker Keaton Kristick, the Beavers held the Bruins to a paltry six points and 237 total yards of offense.
Kristick led the team in tackles (8) and tackles for loss (3), while fellow linebackers David Pa'aluhi and Dwight Roberson teamed up for two sacks.
Victor Butler once again led the defensive line with three tackles and two tackles for loss. And while the statistics only show three sacks, Butler, Slade Norris, Stephen Paea, and the linebackers all teamed up to pressure Bruin quarterback Kevin Craft numerous times, many times hitting him right after he released the ball.
Senior cornerback Brandon Hughes wins his first MVP award of the year, with a good performance including four pass break-ups and six tackles. Fellow defensive back Greg Laybourn also had a solid game, including one interception that he returned 53-yards to the UCLA 16 yard line, which set up a Sean Canfield to Jacquizz Rodgers touchdown two plays later.
